2 Ways to Dramatically Lower Your Electric Bill

Would you like to lower your electric bill? Well, your water heater is one of the most energy-hungry appliances in your home! Water heating can account for 15%-20% of your electric usage, depending on how much and how often you use it. Makes sense to turn it off sometimes doesn’t it? You might want to turn your thermostat down too!

I installed a solar energy system on my roof in Florida about 3 years ago and my efforts to improve my home’s energy efficiency continue. If the water heater is shut off, it isn’t using electricity and energy experts say you can save about $1.36 a day. This is more or less dependent on the volume of water being heated and at what temperature. Every time I leave the house for a trip, I shut off my water heater at the breaker box but sometimes I forget in my haste to get out the door. Solution? A “smart” water heater timer!

About a week ago, I bought an Aquanta Smart Water Heater Controller with leak detection and had it installed. The process was simple and I am using the Aquanta app which offers you four ways to control your water heating.

The standard temperature for most water heaters is 140 degrees. I set the thermostat lower at 110 degrees and am also able to set the times for water heating. Initially, I will be experimenting with different settings and all this I can do on my phone! So easy, especially because I never knew how to set the thermostat on my water tank before. And, I can make changes whenever I want to from anywhere!

Want more energy efficiency for your home? Say “yes” to sunshine! Going solar will give you the biggest reduction in your electricity bill because you are powering up your house with the sun’s free energy. It’s very easy to do, just show me your electric bill!

This year, you can build your own power plant on your property with zero money down and a solar tax credit of 30%! If you don’t have the tax liability for the 30% tac credit, you can lease a solar system and still pay less for your electricity. The other option is to do nothing… and keep paying a monthly electric bill that goes up every year!
